C A P S T O N E PROJECT
Having the freedom to pick our own topic was cool.
I liked the time you gave us . . . I truly feel I know a lot about my topic, and the time in class, with you collaborating, the time outside of class, and the overall research time was very nice.
I really liked this project because we had the freedom to decide what we wanted to research. I also liked how we worked on it throughout the entire year because it made me feel much more connected to my topic. Even though not having a lot of guidelines was a little hard at times, it really paid off because it gave us the freedom of choosing what else we wanted to learn.
I would say my most significant success was the website. When I was done I felt really proud and accomplished to see what I had been working on all year come to life through a cool website.
The most positive aspect of this project for me was that I got to learn so much about myself while writing this paper. I learned about how I read and how I can help myself learn better.
It was cool to learn more about a topic of your choice. especially in my case where I thought that I knew a lot about homelessness before we started, but I found out that there was a lot that I didn't know, and it was interesting to learn more about it.
I liked that we could chose our own topic. I chose something that I enjoyed learning about so researching and learning wasn't a chore at all for me. My favorite part about the project was having time to research something I really like. School days are busy and I liked coming to English class knowing that I would be able to research something I am passionate about.
I liked that we were free to choose any topic that we wanted to research. I usually get tired of research projects pretty quickly because I am usually not very invested in the topic . . . It's much easier to stay on task and be invested in the paper if it's something that I chose to research myself rather than something that was assigned to me.
I enjoyed getting to research a topic that I cared about and that I had never looked at in a class setting. I mostly enjoyed that the project was independent and that each person was responsible for keeping themself on track.
My most significant success was discovering how much I already knew about my own brain. It seems like a small victory, but it was very nice to know how much I really knew about my subject, just by being a member of the affected comunity.
You didn't steer me in your direction; you just tried to guide me in a possibly lucrative direction, i.e., you didn't take over my project. You let me be creative.
I liked how personal it was and how we were in charge, but there were many checkpoints along the way. The checkpoints kept me focused so that I wouldn't have a huge 15-page paper to write all at once. This project was very helpful for me because it eventually helped me decide where I wanted to go to school next year. The fact that our topics are our personal career goals is very cool because I know a few people who thought they wanted to do something, but doing all of this research made them realize that that job was not really for them.
I enjoyed being able to apply concepts I had learned in other classes like biology, comparative religions, and anatomy.
Capstone allowed me to research something I am very interested in, explore what I feel about the topic, and how what I learned should and may possibly affect my work in the future. I learned a lot of my topic of interest and how to write a different type of research paper.
You were helpful reinforcing why we were doing this and why I should care, because, let's be honest, sometimes I was sick of my research and I hit mental blocks. Talking it out with you and talking about past moves and possibilities, though, usually would remind why I cared about the topic and would get me thinking about new roads of research.
I ended the year with a successful 40-page paper and a personally designed website celebrating a topic of interest.
