WHAT IS JUSTICE?

JUSTICE IS BOTH

the act of ensuring the universal human rights of all individuals, with equal value, treatment, and opportunities to fulfill their hierarchy of needs.

the act of making right and fair something that is wrong or unfair, as agreed upon by a particular society's ethical and moral codes; the act of balancing, with integrity and consistency, an imbalance within the society.

AND

DISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE: fair distribution of wealth, power, respect, opportunities, etc., based on equality, merit, status, needs, etc.

 

SOCIAL JUSTICE: concerned with universal human rights

 

RETRIBUTIVE JUSTICE: concerned with punishments, which can include, among others, RESTORATIVE/REPARATIVE JUSTICE (restoring well-being, money, property, etc., and repairing physical or psychological "wounds") and UTILITARIAN JUSTICE (for deterrence, security, incapacitation, rehabilitation)

 

PERSONAL JUSTICE: includes revenge and vigilantism

 

DIVINE JUSTICE: faith-based
